Snow started to drift down as we left Port McNicoll. by the time we made it to CFRH in Penetanguishene, it was snowing pretty heavily. I made sure I remembered my car keys as we slipped and slid across the parking lot. I had locked them in the car just two days previous in the same parking lot. Thanks again Barb for calling CAA.
Suzanne Roy had set up and festively decorated the CFRH lounge. The stage, with the remote location radio broadcast equipment, was decorated with a grass skirt and ceiling high palm trees. The bar had a giant grass skirt and was ready for the revelers. Round tables for four were spaced through out the hall. All that was needed was the party. We set up a small display of travel brochures for reading during the dull moments. It wasn't dull. The first guests arrived shortly before 7:00 pm. The CFRH listeners and staff were ready to party from the get go.
Commercial:
CFRH has time slots available for community groups and organization to rent the hall. The CFRH studios on the second floor are part of the Penetanguishene post office building from the thirties. The main floor lounge area has been newly refurbished with a new floor, paint and ceiling artwork. It has good acoustics. The charming old room can accommodate 80 or more people depending on the setup arrangement.
Jean Arcand played and sang his first 45 minute set starting at 8:00. Door prizes, see below for sponsors, were interspersed with the interviews and a live radio feed to CFRH was heard by millions. Well maybe a few less. Steve, Peter, Suzanne, Leslie, and Kelly among others kept the party hopping.
Jean Arcand's guitar stylings and wide ranging vocals were exceptionally well received by the partying audience. Jean warmed up the listeners and kept them red hot through two and a half hours and a three song encore when the final party people decided to brave the cold, blowing snow and headed homeward shortly after 12:00 pm.
Oh yea, there was a draw for the Grand Prize give away "A Caribbean Cruise for Two" shortly after 10 pm. Steve and Peter were ready with a phone extension to call the winner at home live on the air. But wait! Leon at the back of the hall had the winning ticket. Leon and his wife Lise felt it was going to be their lucky night. They are regular CFRH listeners and had managed to call in and win two free tickets from the radio station. Leon hedged his bet by buying 8 more tickets. Their odds were 10 times better and they paid off for the lucky Penetanguishene couple. Congratulations Leon and Lise.
