Modern Flying Machines are Safe
Many potential cruisers and all inclusive vacationers never get to their dream vacations because air flights are involved. Despite the risk of a car crash being much more prevalent “afraid to fly” vacationers stick to land transportation. Trains and coaches are much safer than passenger cars, but the safest way to travel by far is using a modern aircraft which is highly regulated, inspected and maintained with the latest safety features and procedures foremost.
- According to National Transportation Safety Board statistics of airplane accidents which occurred between 1983 and 2000, 17 years, 51,207 out of the 53,487 passengers in those accident survived. That’s a 95.7 percent survival rate.
- In 17 years fewer than 54,000 passengers have been in a plane accident, yet last year alone, US carriers hauled more than 809 million passengers.
- The odds of you being in an airplane accident are minuscule.
Over the years, planes have become safer. The FAA in the United States, and government aviation authorities elsewhere in the world, have required more and more safety features installed in planes.
Still worried? This author, Ned Levi, has some tips for timid fliers.
- Check Seat Guru for seat quality and proximity to exit rows on a flight
- You’re safer in the back of the plane
- In case of an emergency exit from a plane you don’t want to be wearing high heels or sandals
- Sitting within five rows of any exit improves your likelihood of surviving a burning plane
- Aisle seats offer a higher survival rate
- In cold weather, crash survival may depend on your staying warm, consider keeping a jacket on your lap
- Wear long pants and long sleeved shirts, made with natural fibers

The Importance of Walking Walking can add minutes to your life. This enables you at 85 years old to spend an additional 5 months in a nursing home at $7000 per month.
My grandpa started walking five miles a day when he was 60. Now he's 97 years old and we don't know where he is.
I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.
I have to walk early in the morning, before my brain figures out what I'm doing.
I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 bucks. Haven't lost a pound. Apparently you have to go there.
Every time I hear the dirty word 'exercise', I wash my mouth out with chocolate.
The advantage of exercising every day is so when you die, they'll say, 'Well, she looks good doesn't she.'
If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a small country.
I know I got a lot of exercise the last few years,...... just getting over the hill.
We all get heavier as we get older, because there's a lot more information in our heads. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
AND
Every time I start thinking too much about how I look, I just find a Happy Hour and by the time I leave, I look just fine.
Now that I am older, I thought it was great to have more patience... turns out I really don't give a darn!
