You can do vacationing on the cheap and enjoy what cultural wonders are in your own backyard. Once you take out the heavy cost of air faire, your travel costs come down markedly.

How long is it since you’ve been to the local theatre or museum?

Most towns and cities both at home and abroad have hiking trails and nature walks or scenic drives to be enjoyed for free.

Is there a local art fair or festival happening nearby? Local adult sports and teen leagues are often extremely interesting to get involved with as a spectator. If fun times can’t possibly be in your hometown or city, try the next one over and make that your headquarters for a restful, stress free, economical vacation.

Driving a car is not as cheap as it was even a couple of years ago. But when it comes to transporting a family, it comes in quite economically relatively. Camp ground fees and amenity hook ups are increasing in costs but still don’t compare with a fancy hotel with chocolates on your pillow, but the canvas roof is still cheaper. Maybe bringing back the camping culture won’t be easy but it sure is a lot of fun to rough it.
