Long gone are the days of back slapping and glad handing on Main Street. Today’s travel options are varied, widespread and fragmented. In days past, a couple of cruises were your choices and you went to the local bricks and mortar travel agency to buy. It was so simple in the good old days, that travel agents were not really needed but were almost always used.
Today thousands of permutations and subtle variations make travel choices difficult and more demanding of a professional travel consultant. Yet more and more people are shunning travel consultants and try to do it themselves.
The tide towards do-it-all-yourself
travel arrangements on the web, I believe has crested. The travel options are overwhelming to most vacationers. Just like enjoying doing car repairs and oil changes because it was fun and could be done. Now cars are more complicated and have far more peripheral parts that can be broken in error. Most people go to the mechanic, pay a little more and get the repairs done right. There will always be the shade tree travel do-it-yourselfer

Travelonly is a large Canada wide consortium of travel associates. Douglas Offen is a travel professional with Travelonly. There are many regulations and laws that govern the way travel professionals can do business in each province. Each province is different.
TICO (Travel Industry Council of Ontario) governs our operations. Travelonly is registered with TICO #4316071.
Travelonly’s associates are all home based. I can sell travel products as a member of Travelonly. They provide a booking site and huge amounts of volume buying and expertise for all of its professionals. That is great for all but it makes each professional pretty much the same as all the others across Canada.
I believe the web has the most potential for buying and selling travel products. I have created TravelOFFEN.com as the advertising/educational arm of my web travel business. I must adhere to the TICO regulations and to Travelonly rules when I sell travel. but I want to be more personal than just a “fill in the blank give me your money web site”.

I don’t want to do any kind of business in such an impersonal way. I have to believe in what I am telling and selling or I could not do it. As funny as it sounds my brother spent hours asking questions of friends and relatives about
a telephone marketing business (read scheme) that would cost him $59. He himself said in comparison that it was foolish to fret so much over such a little investment, when he had just been to a county fair and wrote a cheque for $4000 to buy a hot tub, after talking with the salesman fourteen minutes. I don’t think that is the way most people will approach a major investment. But when a customer is ready to buy it’s difficult to stop the urge. I created TravelOFFEN.com as my information web presence for travel. I feel there are great misconceptions and mistrust of the “insider secrets” in the travel industry. Some travel professionals are sometimes thought of as lower than the lowest when it comes to customer interests and service. They tarnish the efforts of the rest of us.
