Like to Read When Travelling?

About

Doug OffenThat’s me on the left, Doug Offen and I write most of the posts for the TravelOFFEN.com blogs for now. (Other people interested in travel or with interesting travel experiences are welcome to apply as guest contributors.)

As a retired school teacher, I find I love vacation travel and I enjoy simple research and writing. I used to do a modified stream of conscious writing exercise with my grade five students. You just sit down and write for a period of time. Anything that pops into your head. That is the kind of writing I like to do best, with a little background knowledge and research thrown in. So forgive me in advance if my blog posts are a bit disjointed and rough around the grammar edges.

I want to help Canadian travelers enjoy their vacations. Most people enjoy a vacation because by definition that’s what vacations mean. But in today’s hectic world of instant messages and jet lag there are plenty of ways that a vacation could turn out to be less than enjoyable. I want to identify and perhaps help you avoid some of the modern day potholes in the road to happy vacation land.

I have traveled a great deal and have gained expertise in several areas of travel. I am most familiar with cruising and without a doubt that is a wonderful way to enjoy a vacation. But cruising is not for everyone.

My posts will be short and hopefully helpful. They will be on most any subject I find interesting to me and I think might be of interest to you the reader. Of interest to me means I’ll enjoy and learn from researching and writing the entry. I don’t presume every post will be of equal interest to everyone, but hopefully some will gain a tip or a bit of insight from the reading. Of course if no one is interested in reading my blog then it becomes a private diary of value and interest to me. That’s not my goal but sadly that is the outcome some blogs achieve.

I am dead set against spam in any form. I will not spam you. You may subscribe to my newsletters and rss feeds on an easy opt-in and optionally opt-out basis. Of course you are also free to not click on this blog too. I’ll miss you but I will keep on plugging away. To help prevent spam all comments on the posts are allowed only after registering and satisfying me that you are a real person with a helpful contribution.

I am not without an ulterior motive though. My daughter is a travel professional working under the Travelonly umbrella group of agents.
